Why you crushin’?: I mean, come on. It’s fairly obvious by now that anything having to do with the 1960s is the greatest thing in the world to me (save for racism and sexism obbbvs). While The Ronettes and The Beatles are sadly missing from this concert and, therefore, film – and, though I can barely stand Diana Ross – I still found myself flipping the fuck out when I finally watched it last night. It started and didn’t fucking stop for two straight hours. Fast songs, slow songs, songs I knew by heart, songs I’d never heard – James Brown and his cape!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When he dropped to his knees, I, literally, said aloud, “Shit! Someone bring him his cape!” and a dude totally brought him his cape. Anyway, not only were the performances outstanding, there were also a good amount of dancers on stage with them that didn’t. quit. Oh and, no big deal, but Tony Basil and Teri Gaar were two of those dancers! I definitely want to watch it again so I can find them. Some girls were in bathing suits, one dude was probably the lead singer of TV on the Radio; I can’t even explain to you how badly you need to find this thing and watch it to death.

Alright, I just checked: you can’t watch it online at Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu, but you can totally rent or purchase it, respectively, at those first two places.

The talent behind the blog are Dario Natale (since last January) and founder Mary Scherpe. Mary started the blog in 2006, with Hel-Looks as its main inspiration (I forgot this one when listing the fashion blogs I still read; this one was also too good to give up).

Most of the professional and civilian models are shot in Berlin, though, Mary and Dario have also travelled to other European (and American and beyond?) cities to snap their shots; so, while some of the below pictures may not be German, per se, it still fucking counts so back off, okay? Holy shit, and I just noticed their link to Stillos in Berlin, which is, basically, their pictures of the people, but minus the people, so it’s just pictures of places in Berlin. Please take my internet away before I never leave the couch again, thanks.

I think I might want to marry this ginge right here. I must know everything about her!

Anyway, I love this lady. Of course, Sixteen Candles was released eleven days before I was born, so I kind of missed her eighties heyday and had to wait until around junior high school for the second wave of those Brat Pack movies to take hold of that day’s youth. The first film of hers I saw was The Breakfast Club and, obviously, I was more of a “Freak” than a “Princess”. Still, you couldn’t totally dislike Claire because of her popularity and prissy demeanor; Molly plays every role sympathetically. She has the uncanny ability to weave through roles that require her to be a nobody (Sixteen Candles), a popular (The Breakfast Club), and a loser (Pretty in Pink) and, somehow, we believe her in all of them. I feel like these character traits are the plight of being a redhead – you’re either a leper or a unicorn. Having such a fiery mane gives you attention, but you never know what kind.

Why you crushin’?: I hadn’t watched Pretty in Pink in a while (like, months) and, after flipping through the channels yesterday, I came upon the final twenty or so minutes of it on VH1. Instead of just watching the rest there, I decided to pop in my DVD and give it a full see. I’ve always known I’d choose Duckie over Blane, but my love for that boy is always re-ignited, and even more!, each time I watch. Plus, the above video and all of the adorable things he says about Andie. I just fucking love him.

Well, I guess I would totally jump at the chance to live in their house.

Up next: there are already talks about sequel’ing and not sequel’ing, but on March 16th, Mark Millar told Total Film that there was a sequel in the works, and that he would start writing in April
Why you crushin’?: I was lucky enough to last-minute win tickets to the local screening of this thing last week (and had an impromptu tweet-up with Kim!) and it was uh-mazing. Obviously (and I said this sentences ago), I am way behind on every comic in existence, so I hadn’t read this beforehand. I bought it weeks ago, but just hadn’t had the time to read it before I saw it. I wasn’t sure what to expect, or how much I’d fall in love. But everything was glorious. It didn’t hurt that the cutestuff playing John Lennon in Nowhere Boy, Aaron Johnson, was the lead, my two-weeks-ago Crush played one of his friends, and everyone’s favorite (500) Days of Summer-little-sister was the baddest ass of them all. Throw in Nicolas Cage and McLovin’, and I don’t understand how this movie would be bad. I can’t wait to read this jawn!

When the show first started, Rory was a year younger than me, so it was kind of like I was growing up with her. She and Lorelai had the kind of relationship mother and I had, and, eventually, the kind that my sister and I grew to have. I was kind of always the Lorelai, though, because I’m scatterbrained, quick-witted (RIGHT?!), and always down to eat food. Things are different now, I guess. I’m still Lorelai, my sister is still Rory, but we’re not as close as we were a few years ago. Stinks that we live so far from one another (and even farther when she’s at school). I’m hoping this distance (in both the space-sense and more) is only temporary and that this phase will end soon. Sometimes I feel like I’m flailing wildly by myself and no one is fully there to stop me from drowning, no matter how much I try to make them want to. I digress.

Last summer or the summer before (my, how years happen quickly!), I hunkered down and had myself a Gilmore Girls marathon. I’d gotten the box set for the Christmas before, and I was ready to finally give the whole thing a whirl. I kept track of my absolute favorite episodes so that my sister and I could have a mini-marathon before we started school (so then it was two summers ago). I cried so much more that time around than I had while it initially aired. The stuff with Dean and Jess, the stuff with Lorelai and Max, the whole Luke thing that dicked us around for far too long and didn’t even leave us completely satisfied. I was absolutely unbearable while watching the finale again. Damn the entire situation that lead to that sham of an ending. First of all, it should’ve been a multi-parter, if not, at least, a two-hour finale. That they had to rush every single story to a close is unforgivable.

Anyway, I miss this show more and more every year. I’m sure it would’ve run its course by now had it gone on (though, so long as it was rescued from the hands of David S. Rosenthal, I’m sure I would’ve continued to enjoy it), but still. This was a show that got me through the most changing years of my entire life – and continue to do so. And now I want to have another marathon. I watch so much television and so many movies. I leave the house only sometimes.

The Runaways, as a whole, were my first ever girl crushes. I came upon my mom’s copy of The Runaways Live in Japan as a pre-tween (read each girl’s short biography hundreds of times), and I haven’t been the same since. I was a pop tart since birth and only happened upon anything more rocking when my dad’s band played or my parents had a house party (this happened often, they were youngings). This, though, I got into all by myself. They were cute, little girls wearing outfits I’d never seen doing things only dudes ever did, and I was crotch-crickety smitten.

I loved them and I still love them. And this movie – flaw-full as it may have been – was exactly what I needed to bring this love back to the beginning.

Basically, what I’m saying is: YOU GET IN THE FUCKING BOOTH!

They’re currently on tour again, but I was too poor to buy tickets to the closest show :(. I’ll be seeing them at Coachella in less than a month, though, so I’m not too torn up about it. (Okay, I am torn up about it. Coachella is hot as frick and I’d like to see them as many times as possible! Yeah, the “hot as frick” part has nothing to do with anything, I’m just preparing myself to be angry the entire time I’m there.)

Sure, he hadn’t yet caught his stride in terms of making outrageously amazing garments (as Christian Siriano did every week of his season), but still! LOOK AT HIS FUCKING FACE. If you don’t want to squeeze those cheeks and get inside of those marigold jeans, there is something sincerely wrong with you. But now he’s gone! And for an outfit that WAS NOT elimination-worthy! Even Tim Gunn was shocked:
