I want to be a bash brother-ish.

A week or so ago, I attended the Robot Chicken On Wheels ’09 Tour. No effing way did I actually rollerskate, but I did steal some flyers about the Philly Roller Girls. Now, I’m like a child in that I want to do something the second I see it, and then I forget about it a day later. Roller derby, though, never leaves. I forget the first time I’d heard about it, and I don’t know that I’ve ever watched an entire match, but the idea of rollerskating in cute outfits and smashing up other girls appeals to me.

Apprehensions about this include: I’ve never broken a bone, and I don’t plan on ever breaking a bone; I bruise easily without even knowing it, imagine how many bruises I’ll have and knowing the precise moments they happen; and I’m poor.

But, whatever. I’ve missed being on a gymnastics team for over ten years now, it’s about time I get back into the only type of sports I love: the kind I’m probably good at. And it coincides with my weight-loss journey! My goal is to sign up for training, at least, upon losing (my first) twenty-five pounds. Like, when I’m around 150. That seems forever away, but whatever. I’ve already lost three pounds since this post.

What should my roller derby name be? I’m thinking JASMINSANE!

  1. One of my bff’s from elementary school had a sister that was on the Philly Roller Girls and I wish I could remember her “stage name”. She may still on the team actually. I’m gonna check out their site (I’m assuming they have one) and get back to you on this.

  4. I’ve always wanted to do roller derby. Our team in Maine is actually pretty good, so I’m scared to try out, since I barely know how to skate.

  8. That would be so awesome if she was still in it. That would mean she was fucking badass after all these years!

  9. I know! I haven’t been on rollerskates in way too many years. I’m totally scared to do even that.
