who am i crushing on this week!
Name: The Ronettes – Veronica Bennet (a.k.a. Ronnie Spector), Estelle Bennet, and Nedra Talley
Occupation: Greatest Girl-Group of the 1960s (and maybe of all time)
Status: Disbanded at the end of 1966; Estelle died of colon cancer in February of this year
Most known for: their hit “Be My Baby” featured in the cinematic classic Dirty Dancing; their beehives, tight skirts, and heavy eyeliner; and being the only female group to ever tour with the Beatles (not fair!)
First known for: replacing The Crystals as Phil Spector’s newest girl group
Up next: well, nothing, unfortunately, but the girls were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 and performed “Be My Baby”, “(Walking) in the Rain”, and “Baby I Love You” (Estelle didn’t want to perform, but was there to accept her award).
Why you crushin’?: Um, they’re amazing? I’ve been on a super-kick of them lately that has only been propelled by the recent death of one of their songwriters, Ellie Greenwich. Their songs are absolutely perfect and Ronnie has one of those voices that you just have to sing along to. I love them so much. I want to be them when I grow up.

Aren’t they amazing!! I love the ’60s so much, I want every piece of music ever released in that era. And I need more Marvelettes! I think I only have a few by them, from compilations and stuff.
